He’s struggling to step into his new role as a single dad. She’s trying to keep her ranch operational and her heart intact. Can Nate and Ginger build forever out of heartache?

Cowboys looking for a second chance at life, love, and happiness.

Nathaniel Mulbury is released early from his six-year term in prison to care for his brother’s four-year-old son. Dealing with grief over his brother’s death and continued guilt for his role in the embezzlement scheme that landed him in jail, Nate has one more problem. He’s never been a father and has no idea how to take care of Connor.

Make that two problems: He’s released, but only to the care of Hope Eternal Ranch, a work-parole ranch run by the beautiful and smart Ginger Talbot.

He’s never been a cowboy, and he’s got no room in his life for a woman. Ginger has dealt with plenty of men like Nate, even if the sparks between them don’t just come from his background. She’s not falling for a handsome face and a nice pair of biceps again.

After all, most prisoners have plenty of time to work out. But there’s something different about Nate that calls to her softer side, if only she’d let him in. If only she knew how to let anyone in… But Ginger is jaded for good reason, and she’s not going to risk losing Hope Eternal Ranch—or her heart—again.

Can Ginger and Nate find their happily-ever-after, keep up their duties on the ranch, and build a family? Or will the risk be too great for them both?

I can’t put Elana’s books down… Each one is touching and romantic! I’m going to buy the next one right now!

  2. Jeanne G.

I enjoyed this book very much. I liked the theme of a ranch taking in good people caught in bad situations, and making their lives better.

  3. Joann ME

Had me from the get go, I didn’t put it down. It’s fascinating to read about inmates making an exit and hopefully a successful life, although that’s extremely difficult. This ranch is something else, it is hope and new beginnings.

  4. Rose Helg

That s book was Good. The first few chapters, I had to cry. But, it got better. The ending was Good, also. Going to read the next book now.

  5. Kindle Customer

  8. Mimi Linda T.

This book was a clean read, but the story dealt with adult themes such as prison, mistakes , death & redemption. Already downloaded book 2!

  9. CAROLYN J. BORCHARDT

The two main characters are complex. There are some dark moments which are balanced out by the romance. All-in-all the story was really well-written.

  10. Susan L Shearer

Hopeful Cowboy by Elana Johnson was a different type of story than I am used to but it kept my interest until the end. Nate was in prison on investment fraud and wasn’t to be released for another 6 months of his seven-year sentence. Ginger owned and ran Hope Eternal Ranch that was a Residential Reentry Center where the inmates learned how to adjust to life outside of the prison. When Nate’s brother, Ward, died unexpectedly and he was named guardian of his four-year-old nephew, Connor. Nate was released to Ginger and the Hope Eternal Ranch to take care of Connor and serve the last six months of his sentence. Can Ginger help Nate find himself again and prepare him for what lies ahead of him with his release and caring for his nephew? Will Nate feel he deserves to live again and raise Connor? Can Ginger and Nate overcome the emotional and physical draw toward each other to make the transition easy for everyone? These are questions that will make you keep reading to find out.

I should have read this book of the series first. I enjoyed knowing a little more of the outcomes for the author’s characters in her other books though. In finding where one belongs takes strength from within. These characters find their strength as they find place on the Hope Eternal Ranch.Taking care of a small child, learning how to be a responsible and reliable cowboy, and wanting to be trusted grows on Nate as he finds his place on this ranch.Romance kicks in when he starts to like his boss.A great book!

  13. lavendarma

You had me from the first chapter! As soon as I read about a man appreciating his view from his new “dormitory” and I turned the page and BAM! It’s not college; this is prison! Then this same man goes to Hope Eternal Ranch to finish his sentence. I’ll tell you, I was hooked on the first book and read through all of the series! They are all unique and such great romance! I love how you get to know each of the characters’ personalities. No flat characters here; they get under your skin and make you think and cry and smile. I also really like how the prisoners who go to the Ranch aren’t natural born cowboys. But they are good workers and catch on fast. Such a fabulous series! Make sure you have the next one queued up, because you’ll want to jump right on into it! There’s always a sneak peak of the next story, too. And it’s about someone you’ve already met in previous books. Excellent writing!

  14. Diane

This story was so good. All the people in the story had such different backgrounds .Didn’t want to put it down.

  15. Judith Seale

Very interesting and informative story. Being in ministry, my husband ministers to prisoners every week. I have met some of the prisoners and find some of them remind me of Nat. I enjoyed reading this story very much.

My review today is on the Romance , Hopeful Cowboy: A Mulbury Boys Novel. This is book one in the Hope Eternal Ranch Romance Series. I enjoyed this book. I have never read any of Elana’s work before but I really liked this one and look forward to reading more of her books. The story is well written and heartwarming. I know you are going to love it.Nathaniel Mulbury is in prison on a white collar crime. He has done everything he can to not cause trouble so he can get out as soon as possible. One day he is called into the office and his whole world is turned upside down. He is told his beloved brother has died and has left him everything including his four year old son. They are giving him an early release but he must go to a ranch that will be a halfway house for him and the child. Nate doesn’t know how to be a cowboy or a father but he is willing to learn. His only concern is the beautiful woman that will be in charge of him. He has no time for a woman in his life.Ginger Talbot had taken convicts before, one turned out to steal her money and almost got the ranch. She’s not sure what to do about the attraction she feels for Nate. She will not be hurt again. There is something different about Nate though and who could help but fall for that adorable little boy.A great journey of second chances. God has a plan for these three; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Make Him Lord in your life and He will get you through these trying times.

  22. Falmouth

Sweet love story about a former financial guy who gets an early release from prison to care for his 4 year old nephew after the boy’s father dies and his mother doesn’t want him.Nate gets released to a sort of half-way house – a ranch. Nate however, received the early release with restrictions and he’s not entirely done with his past life. The ranch, where the female owner teaches him to, not only become a cowboy, but a friend, a lover, and a confident man again, is the opportunity to start a new life.Very clean book. Only kissing happens and there are no swear words. This book can be read by anyone.I listened to the audio version. The narrator is wonderful This is my honest review

  26. Genetha E Atkins

I like books that have many interesting scenes that you can almost figure out the ending, but not quite the exact ending. I enjoy books that have interesting new to me information.

I love the concept of an ex-con getting a second chance to live an honest life and who better to help him than the beautiful rancher. It’s a fun twist. I love Johnson’s stories.

  33. M.K.

The Hopeful Cowboy is a strong emotional story of Nate, a convict that was arrested by getting into investment fraud. His mistake put him in prison and he was getting out early for good behavior. When they move the release date up they inform him in the middle of the night that his brother that had stood behind him through all this had been killed in an accident. The will left everything to Nate including the sweet 4 year old little boy Connor. He is released to Hope Eternal Ranch in the custody of the owner Ginger to finish out his 6 months and they allow Connor to live with him. All the people working the ranch take time caring for Connor. But, due to someone from Nate’s past coming back into his life it cost him his freedom. While everybody wanted him back on the work release program even the prison director they decide he would be better at Hope Eternal Ranch if Ginger will take him back and they put him back to 6 months before his sentence is complete. He makes the most of his time with Connor and Ginger and is glad he is on his way to freedom. He wants to be a good father and one day hopefully a husband so Connor will have a complete family.

  34. Joe Ann Miller

This book kept my interest to the very end. I don’t often read all the words in a book but I did this one. There were some two tissue parts in Hopeful Cowboy which added to the way life goes. I extremely recommend this book.

  35. Sue Grosz

Being awakened in the middle of the night was a cause for anxiety for Nate. Ha ing his attorney and the warden there meant something we up. Little did Hate realize how his life was about to change with the news his brother had died in a accident, He was awarded guardianship of his nephew and would be released from prison to a reentry program on Friday. Becoming a father, a cowboy and almost free were in addition to working for woman turned his life upside down.

  36. Mary Garbarino

This book brings out all the feels. Nate made a mistake and is paying for it in prison. He is a model prisoner and has a regular visitor in his big brother, Ward. As life goes a tragedy struck and everything changes. A must read.

This is a first read of Elana Johnson’s works… and look forward to reading more of her books.well written and heartwarming. I’m pretty sure you are going to love it also. This is a fantastic clean romance between Nate and Ginger.Ginger owns and runs Hope Eternal Ranch where a lot of the high society type prisoners nearing their releases from a minimum security prison finish their sentences at the ranch. There are however rules they have to obey, and they have to work on the ranch as cowboys/cowhands.while they server out their sentence they receive pay for the hours worked and a room to stay in.Nate gets some very sad news and so he gets released to the ranch the day he finds out that his brother died and left all he owned to Nate, including being the guardian for his four-year old son, Connor.Nate never did anything like a cowboy but soon he came learned and came to love the ranch and all the people who lived and worked at the ranch especially Ginger.Ginger Talbot had taken ex-cons before, sadly one turned out to steal her money and almost got hold of her ranch. Now she’s not sure what to do about the attraction she is feeling for Nate. She promised herself ..NEVER…again will she allow her heart to be hurt again. However there is just something about Nate that she finds herslef faling in love and then their is his adorable little boy/ nephew.I believe this story is about a journey of second chances. God has a plan for these three; a plan for a hope and a future. and I pray you realize God has a plan for you too, a plan that is good and not for evil. Make Him Lord in your life and He will get you through any and everything.

Hopeful Cowboy by Elana Johnson is the first book in the Hope Eternal Ranch Romance series. Nathaniel Mulbury is paying for a major mistake as he is in prison for an embezzlement scheme. With his release date in sight, he just needs to stay on his best behavior. However, he finds himself in a new role as a single father when his brother is killed in an accident and his son is left in Nate’s care. He is given an early release to the Hope Eternal Ranch, a work parole ranch, run by Ginger Talbot. Ginger has dealt with men like Nate before but she’s been burned before. She’s determined to not risk losing the ranch or her heart. She notices there is something different about Nate but can she risk her heart again?Hopeful Cowboy is a sweet story of life, love and second chances. Nate is a man who owns up to his mistakes and doing what he can to make it right. When he gains custody of his nephew, he steps it up and makes sure he is the one to take that role. I loved Nate’s commitment to live up to the role he was entrusted with. I enjoyed Ginger as she tries to protect her heart but finds herself drawn to Nate. I also enjoyed the many supportive characters and look forward to their possible stories in the future. There was a sweet romance between Nate and Ginger. There was drama and forgiveness. Overall, I enjoyed Hopeful Cowboy and I look forward to the rest of the series. I recommend Hopeful Cowboy.Hopeful Cowboy is available in paperback, eBook, and audiobook.

  42. Karen Semones

I loved this book by Elana Johnson so much that I read it in one day. This is a fantastic clean romance between Nate and Ginger. Ginger owns and runs Hope Eternal Ranch where prisoners nearing their releases from a minimum security prison finish their sentences at the ranch. There are rules they have to obey, and they have to work on the ranch as cowboys. They receive pay for their hours worked and a room to stay in. Nate is released to the ranch the day he finds out that his brother died and left all he owned to Nate including being the guardian for his four-year old son, Connor. Nate had never worked as a cowboy but learned to love the ranch and all the people who lived and worked at the ranch especially Ginger. Did Nate complete his sentence and did he, Connor, and Ginger become a family? You will have to read the book to find out. I highly recommend this must read book. It is a standalone book even though it is the start of a series.
