Book 2: The Paradise Plan - eBook

Cassandra Haslam loves plans. Lunch plans, wedding plans, and floor plans—they all bring her joy. In fact, she's had her entire life planned out—career, marriage, and family—since age ten. She's smart, hard-working, and a real go-getter, and everything has fallen into place so far.

Until her husband dies suddenly, right when she's about to enjoy the fruits of all of her hard work and planning, leaving Cass reeling and...well, without a plan.

When her youngest graduates three months later, making her an empty-nester as well as a widow, Cass decides it's time to make a new plan for herself.

It's not a back-up plan.

It's a paradise plan.

With one of her best friends now living in Hilton Head, Cass makes a move and purchases a piece of waterfront property on the island. It's the perfect place to build her paradisiacal life and her new self as she designs and constructs a beautiful beach house.

But when she injures herself—not in the plan, by the way—she meets general-contractor-turned-doctor Harrison Tate. He helps her out of a jammed thumb, a sprained ankle, and a bruised ego.

When he keeps showing up unannounced at her construction site, sometimes with her favorite pastries, Cass starts to wonder if she should add him to her daily routine... If she does, will her perfectly laid out plans fall short of paradise? Or could she find her new life and a new love, all without any plans at all?

Book 3: The Seaside Strategy - eBook

Lauren Keller understands strategies. She adores them and never enters a marketing meeting without Strategy A, B, and C tucked away in the back of her mind. She's one of the top executives at her firm...until it all comes crashing down with the news that her boss has been stealing money from their clients for almost a decade.

After narrowly escaping indictments herself, Lauren finds herself, at age 43, standing in the parking lot of her office building, a box with a stapler, a sad plant, and a couple of photos as her only companions.

She needs a new strategy, and she decides she can map everything out from the beaches of Hilton Head.

It's not an exit strategy.

It's a seaside strategy.

Relax more. Worry less. Find out what she really wants in her life.

While trying to do that, all with the ocean breeze and her friends for support, Lauren meets Blake Williams. The man is movie-star gorgeous, witty, and looking for someone to help him run his successful financial planning business on the island.

But Lauren doesn't want to work for him, especially not in strategic investments. She's had enough of the high-profile, corporate life. Can she strategically insert herself into Blake's life without compromising her seaside strategy and finally get what she really wants...love and a lasting relationship?

    Beautiful second chance romance!

I loved this story so much! Elana takes you on a journey of dealing with loss, and learning to heal and move on. This is the perfect book to read on the beach or by the pool! 5 stars!Cass and her husband have their whole lives planned out, the only thing they didn’t plan on was West passing away. Now left alone in their big house, while their three kids are off doing their own thing, she decides to go to Myrtle Beach to visit her friends Bea and Grant, and unbeknownst to her, their single friend Harrison. She’s not ready to start something new, or is she?Harrison swore he’d never get married again. Then along came Cass, and he starts feeling things for her. He knows she’s having a tough time, especially with her kids, but all he wants to do is be there for her. This story is a beautiful one, as is this series so far! If you haven’t read the first book (you don’t need to this is a complete stand alone) but I recommend it! I can’t wait for the third book to come out!

    Very Clean and Very Romantic

I really enjoyed reading this book about the bonds of friendship and romance. Bea went through a difficult divorce and when she receives the final papers, she felt out of sorts on wondering what she will do next in her life. Her unique knack for making lists to keep her on track was named “The Love List”. Bea’s friends encourage her to get away, and even books the trip for her to Hilton Head to enjoy the beach. I enjoyed the “sisterhood ” of the women and the way they helped each other when faced with challenges. Their love for each other is amazing. I totally recommend reading this book especially if you are a hopeless romantic!!!!????

A swoon-worthy tale of second chances and so much more!

I enjoyed the Paradise Plan with its strong community of female friends who give Cass their love and support when her husband suddenly dies. After her youngest child graduates, Cass is officially an empty nester. All her life she’s thrived on making plans, and she needs one now to take her into this new chapter of her life. When Cass visits her friend in North Carolina, she starts with a new plan and buys beautiful waterfront property to begin her new adventure. Along comes Harrison, a mutual friend as well as general contractor Harrison. He brings her favorite pastries, doctors an injury, cooks dinner and is so wonderful. Could their relationship develop into more? What will her children say? What will her gal pals say? A wonderful story of second chances and love! As always, Ms. Johnson writes a wonderful swoon-worthy tale with well-developed characters and so much more! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.

    An unexpected second chance

When Bea’s divorce papers finally arrive, she’s not sure what comes next. A life-long maker of lists, she’s compiled a new one called her love list. Little does she realize that this list will change her life forever. When her friend, Cass, books a vacation for her on Hilton Head Island, she’s trying to adjust to traveling alone. Then she meets the owner/manager of the beach house she’s staying at, she doesn’t expect Grant to capture her heart. But she lives in small-town Texas and he’s been on Hilton Head most of his life. Does their budding love even stand a chance? This is the perfect beach read about a group of women closer than most sisters and how they learn to adapt to life’s changes. An excellent read.

Great book in a new series. With her divorce final, Bea goes to Hilton Head Island to work on her “love list”. Grant was not on her list and totally unexpected. Bea and Grant are such well written characters that I felt right there with them. Her friends are her support and they are described so well. This second chance romance is a wonderful read, can’t wait for the next one, and highly recommend it.I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.

A story of friendship, loss and love

This is a wonderful new story from an author I enjoy. Bea is recently divorced and her friends have been there through it all and are very important to her. They push her to leave her comfort zone and it all turns out just wonderfully. I don’t want to give the story away so I won’t go into details but I love the dynamics of the friends, how they all try to hide themselves but the others know who they truly are. There are friends, there is a man and a woman and there are trials and tribulations. Good clean sweet romance but it’s mostly about Bea and her life.

This is such a good read. This time we meet Lauren who thinks that everything in her world is great when all of a sudden BaM it’s not and everything is turned upside down. So what do you do when you need to figure things out? You head to the seaside and your friends for help in sorting everything out. Whilst there she meets Blake who runs a successful business on the island and is so impressed with her that he offers her a job but it isn’t what she wants is it? It’s a wonderful read, it’s sweet, it’s fun and I very much enjoyed it.

    Inspiring

This was an inspiring story, you learn Lauren’s story and what made her the way she is. In her Seaside Strategy she comes up with a plan to make her life better. Losing her job the way she did would have demoralized a person but she uses it to better herself. I loved her and Blake’s story. Blake makes some bad choices but redeemed himself each time. This is a book to read this summer. I still want friends like the supper club. They make you laugh and cry. An inspirational story that I would recommend. Cannot wait for Joy’s story.

Sometimes the scariest things we have to do are also the most rewarding

Sometimes the scariest things we have to do are also the most rewarding. Now with grown children and a broken marriage behind her, Bea is starting over at a time in her life when she should be enjoying the rewards of all her hard work. I adored the way Bea took on the challenges of this new phase in her life. Things she wanted to do but hadn’t while she was still with her ex? Those go at the top of the list to accomplish first. And I loved that she was willing to step outside of her comfort zone and take little risks with Grant. I’m also a little in love with the supporting cast around this pair. They’re all vibrant characters and I want to read more about each and every one of them.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

Lauren Keller moved to Hilton Head Island, but when she was called back to Texas by her boss she found the company in disarray and her job gone and narrowly escaping indictments herself. An interesting and heartwarming book.

    Enjoyable second chances story

I have been sucked into the supper club! I throughly enjoyed Cass’s story and catching up with all the others. The sweet romance for Cass and Harrison is charming. The family bonding and drama is intense The fun and constant care the supper club friends share is inspiring. To have a group that knows you inside and out, stands up for you and supports you, even through difficult times, everyone needs that kind of friendship. A lot takes place in this book but I never felt lost or bored. It held my attention throughout. They deal with some real life events that are hard, but handled really well. Looking forward to Lauren’s story.

    What will she decide?

Bea has just received her final divorce papers at 45, has empty nested and is lonely. She has spent her life writing lists so she does forget anything. Her lists have lists. She writes up a bucket list that she calls her lovelist. Her Thursday night supper club makes reservations and ship her off to Hilton Head to go in the ocean. Mind you, the ocean is an hour drive out of her home in Texas. Where is she going to meet someone her age? She meets Grant, the rental owner of her cottage and is he enamored with her! The problem is that they live a few thousand miles away from each other. She is called home when her father falls and breaks his hip. Issues, issues and issues….. what to do. Well, she has a posse that don’t find it beneath them to plot.Well written and a very enjoyable read for this old lady!I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book

    We can begin again

Another great book by Elana Johnson. She never disappoints. This is a great start to a new series of books. Starting over after the death of a spouse is not always easy but this book defines it perfectly. It can be just as good, just different, than before. The message for me is to go out there and live my best life (I have not lost a spouse but my mom did and her next husband was so good to her). I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to the rest of the series.

This is a great midlife read. Not a paranormal one like I usually read but a beach one and i loved it. 45 years old, newly divorced and kids got their own lives what’s a lady to do? Start a list of what you would love to do and follow it. That’s exactly what Bea does and so finds herself on Hilton Head island and a fantabulous beach vacation. Throw in a tall, dark and handsome vacation manager and you have yourself a sweet clean romance with a couple that have great chemistry which just proves there is life after 40!!

My Favorite Elana Johnson book so far

I’ve read a lot of books by Elana Johnson. But this book is way more than a romance. It was about a middle aged woman, Bea, who has close friends that she sees regularly. After a drawn out divorce, 14 months of fighting with her ex, the divorce is final. Bea is a great maker of lists and she’s written out a list for what she wants to do, sort of a bucket list, but more a list of enjoyable or challenging things she wants to try. Her friends book her into a water front cottage on Hilton Head Island. She starts working on her list and meets a man – maybe THE man. But she’s a long way from home and life goes on.This book is a clean story about friendship, family, and love. Anyone can read it.I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

    Great story

Another great story from the supper club. Lauren is dealt a big blow when the company she has worked for is shut down because of embezzlement. She keeps it from her friends because she doesn’t want to spoil Cass’s wedding. She decides to give Blake Williams another chance and things heat up quickly. Lauren tends to close off when things get difficult and has a hard time believing she is worthy of love. Blake is loving and patient and able to break down her walls. It is so sweet to watch these “older” women find love. I look forward to Joy’s journey to happily ever after.

Grieving and moving on from the loss of a spouse/parent

Cass’ life plan goes right out the window with the senseless death of West right before his retirement and her youngest’s high school graduation. With two older daughters everyone is reeling as they process death and grief and loss. Cass is left to rattle around alone in her big house until it feels like she’s being swallowed up. Her Supper Club friends are there to help her survive and she visits Bea and her new husband on Hilton Head island and finally starts feeling alive. Of course their good friend Harrison helps. This is such a great story of a woman rediscovering herself after a great loss and finding the strength to pursue what she wants in face of opposition of family and friends. Harrison is nothing like West, but he’s good and kind and treats her like a Queen. She has to be strong as she guides her adult children through their own grieving process and there’s definitely some tough love/straight talk involved. This is a realistic look at grief and moving on and coming to grips with new realities among the different characters and how the supporting people both help and hinder. Harrison is an amazing hero, very real and flawed himself but willing to do the hard things to make the relationship work.I received this as an ARC and its clean with an underlying Christian life view (but not overt). Its a mature look at the grieving process.

    A Breath of Fresh Air

A wonderful and refreshing book about friendship and second chances. ❤️ I love this book. Beatrice or “Bea” has six amazing friends who are trying to help her through the finalizing of her divorce. She is notorious for making list so her friends help her check off some items by sending her on a trip to Hilton Head Island for some relaxation. Bea will have an easy time checking off items when she meets the rental manager, Grant. If you want a sweet read for the beach pick up The Love List.

This book has one of the most unexpected beginnings

This book has one of the most unexpected beginnings, but Lauren needed something drastic to spark changes in her life. And for me, that felt like the theme of Lauren and Blake’s story: change. All the ways it happens, how we handle it, (or don’t handle it,) and the good and bad things that can come from it. I enjoyed this pairing. I particularly liked seeing them building their new family unit around Blake’s son. It both hurt my heart and drove me completely batty to watch Lauren battle the demons in her own mind that told her to leave before she was left. I was so glad to witness the truly adorable ending they were able to achieve, and I can’t wait to see what this has set the stage for next.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

Good story. Fun to read

I love Bea’s idea of a “Love” list. I am a maker of lists myself but not to her extent. Grant is the perfect man for her and I am so happy she is getting her happily ever after. Grant deserves a woman who makes him happy, also. I wish we had met his daughter in this book but maybe she will show up in another. I always love books by Elana Johnson.

Get ready for lots of ahs and sighs.

What an amazing fun beach read. Six women that have a Saturday Night Dinner Club and help each other through all of life’s ups and downs. Bea was suddenly left adrift after her husband found someone new after 25 years and her 3 kids grown and in university and making their own lives. After a 14 month divorce process she’s free to have a Love List -not a bucket list, but things she would love to do. The friends arranged for her to go to Hilton Head island for a 10- day getaway. Her cottage manager is Grant, a handsome 40 something with a teenager daughter. Both felt something they hadn’t dared even dream they would feel again. Life happens and family happens and they wonder if it really was just a vacation fling. This is a clean beach read, but with real feelings and sizzle. Life and love can happen after 40.

    Everyone needs a strategy

Lauren is a planner, never been married, big shot at a corporate entity and not sure where she fits anymore. Half of her friends are in Hilton Head and the other half back in Texas, but she’s drawn to a certain handsome man in Hilton Head so she decides to bite the bullet, buy a house and relocate her life. During this time, her company gets closed down by the FBI for embezzlement and fraud. Whatever is a girl to do?Blake is single, having divorced his ex years ago, although they get along great. They have a thirteen year old son who spends time with both. Blake is taken with Lauren and she with him, so when she decides to make the move, he plays a prominent role in that decision. The women’s Supper Club is a bit topsy turvy as well, meeting in Texas sometimes and in Hilton Head at others. The women are very close and it seems like they gravitate toward each other as natural as family. They are all very supportive of Lauren’s decision, even when she sells her Texas house and makes the move permanent. In the meantime, she’s developing a relationship with Blake’s son and the three are starting to feel like the family Lauren has never had.Once again our author delves into relationships and friendships among women in a very special way. Thanks to her friends, Bea is on her way to Hilton Head after her divorce is finalized. She just plans to walk on the beach, and think about her new life. Then she meets Grant who manages the house she is renting. Sparks fly but can they last since Grant lives on Hilton Head and she lives in Texas. When she leaves Hilton Head to return to Texas for her Daughters graduation and wedding planning party, Bea’s intentions are to return to Hilton Head but then her father breaks his hip and Bea decides she must stay in Texas. Lauren had a rough childhood and it taught her that she needs to make plans and execute them well because she is the only one she can depend on. It was working pretty well for her until all of a sudden, it wasn’t. Handsome and charming Blake has already learned that life is messy and sometimes things don’t work out the way you planned. I loved their story of learning to understand and lean on one another. There were lots of sparks and romantic kisses. I also really have enjoyed the ongoing stories of the ladies in the supper club that run throughout the series. Their friendships are inspirational. Loved the book! Great story!

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author. The relationships seem realistic and the situations they find themselves in all too common. There’s a bit of drama from the couple, but also a lot of believable romance.Lauren hides her insecurity pretty well, but somehow Blake sees it. As their friendship grows and deepens he understands her fears and her coping mechanisms and doesn’t let her pull away. He tells her with actions first and then words that he loves and values her… and it’s exactly what she needs. She, in turn, loves him and his son… all in. She accepts them as a bundle and that the boy’s needs sometimes come first… even if she has to fight off her insecurities first. 🙂

    More from the Supper Club!!

This is book 3 in the series and I love how the author is featuring one of the women in each book, yet she continues to develop the story about the rest of the group as well. Having been a part of a group of friends like this, I can really relate to some of the changes happening in their lives. They gather to celebrate the good things as well as support each other the best they can during the hard times. They feel the loss and separation when someone moves away.Lauren, who is featured in this book, struggles with trusting others to not let her down and finds it easier to be self reliant than to be vulnerable. Thankfully, Blake comes to realize this and doesn’t let her withdraw completely the second time he disappoints her by not showing up for a date. Life is hard at times, but thankfully by standing together and open honest communication they get through to the good times.Though I did receive this book as an Advanced Reader Copy, this is my honest and completely voluntary review.

    Second chances

I have always shied away from ‘later in life’ romances. I’m at that age and didn’t think I would enjoy reading about it. So when I started reading A Love List, I almost stopped, before I got started. But I had committed to reading it so on I went. The story about this group of ladies “The Supper Club” hit the mark. I throughly enjoyed learning about these ladies, and surprisingly didn’t fell overwhelmed by intros to all of them. I thought the story development was really well done, focusing mostly on Bea and Grant. But the few chapters that highlighted other characters really tied in well and made you want to hear their story also. I also really appreciated the wholesome, chaste relationship. The love list, list is a really fun idea for anyone needing to expand and explore, to add new things to keep life interesting. No real high drama, just loving, and compassionate friends that support and encourage each other. A breath of fresh air and a rededication to trying new things, like ‘later in life’ romances. I am excited to read who’s story is next!

    Good romance

Wonderful love story. It was nice to read of an older couple romance. 40+ is definitely not old these days. And sadly there are many divorced people out there, looking for the right one. This story I believe helps those who wonder if they’ll ever find their soulmate. I was blessed to find mine. I didn’t like all the backh stories if the Supper Club ladies, especially when none had a happy ending. I’m assuming the author will write a happily ever after story about each of them. For those like me, who reads a book a night, who can’t afford to buy every e-book, we’ll never know their romantic endings. I enjoyed seeing Bea check off her love list items, but I didn’t like it being called love list. Maybe “To Live Again” list would have been great. My opinion only. Ha! I was very happy to find a clean modern day romance. Kudos to this author.

Beautiful story of love and friendship

Cass finds her life turned upside down when her husband suddenly dies, leaving her with a big house full of memories in a small town in Texas. Harrison is divorced and owns a successful construction company on Hilton Head. When Cass visits Bea and Grant (from book 1) she meets Harrison and while there’s a bit of interest there, nothing happens for a couple more years. At that point, Cass is ready to move on and likes the idea of moving to the island. She buys an almost-finished house three doors down from Harrison and the sparks begin to fly. But neither her grown twin daughters or younger son want her to sell the family home, move across the country and especially get involved with another man. It seems like it’s all over until she gets her back up and expresses to them all what she wants and what she’s going to do to get it. All her girlfriends from Texas support her and they adore him and even her parents think he’s wonderful. At this rate, by the time we come to the end of this series, the whole girlfriend supper club will be living on the East Coast. Another fabulous story about the importance of friendship, family and love.

    Sweet romance

This was a touching story of moving on in life after the death of a spouse. Cass’s husband was a police officer, a week from retirement, and is killed in a shooting at a mall where he was shopping. After being alone for a year and a half, Cass decides it is time to move on from the past. She buys a home in Hilton Head SC and starts a relationship with Harrison Tate, a friend of Bea and Grant’s. She is unprepared for the resistance she gets from her three grown children when she announces she is going to sell her Texas home. As she and Harrison navigate the family drama and her feelings of guilt, he is patient and considerate and treats her like a queen. When she finally stands up to her children, telling them she deserves to be happy. things begin to change. The ladies of the Supper Club are a constant support and encouragement. I look forward to the next book with Lauren’s story.

You have to take care of yourself!

Bea was happy when she finally got the final divorce papers. It took fourteen months for that to happen. She decided to do things a different way. She had her long hair cut short and celebrated with her friends. Her friends told her she needed to get away for a vacation. One of the friends actually purchased a 10 day rental for her and sent her on her way! Bea wasn’t sure about this, but it was already purchased, so off she went to South Carolina on Hilton Head Island. Grant Turner owned the units and took care of any problems. Bea had several problems, and wound up moving in to one right beside the owner. I really enjoyed how well this story developed. This isn’t the end of the story, but it sure has a lot of love in it!

    Friendship, romance and sunsets

Another good read from Hilton Head. This series of best friends in their middle to late forty’s. They have raised their children, been through divorce, lost a spouse or hadn’t found the right one yet. This story is focused mainly on Lauren. She is a career woman that had never had a man sway her like Blake did. But she lives in Texas and he lived in S. Carolina. When a shocking event happened with her job, she was at a loss. The sweet romance is filled with life changing decisions, custody battles, and many tender moments. I encourage you to read these books in the order written, and follow these wonderful friends as they navigate change that comes with everyday living. Well written and very engaging 4.5 stars

Can Cass heal and move on? Can her family accept it?

I am hooked on the Supper Club!! I think you could read this as a stand alone, but WHY?? The first book is also wonderful!! So this is Cass’s story, she loses her beloved husband Wes, this is her story of healing and moving forward. It is AMAZING how she deals with her adult kids and their challenges with her move forward. Enter Harrison, he is FANTASTIC and so different from Cass’s husband, he really is perfect for her!! I love that she is not trying to replace her husband and father of her children, just move forward and to be happy again. I also enjoy the friendships of the supper club, and their relationships. This is well written, clean, and gave me all the feels!!

What an amazing start to a new series!

Great story about starting over after divorce, having good friends by your side, and finding love when you aren’t even looking for it! 5 amazing stars for this one!Bea’s divorce is finally final, and while meeting up with her friends, they find her a place to just take a break and get away. Hilton Head it is, by herself for ten days. She’s got her list of things to experience from her friends, so she sets out to get them done.Grant has been divorced for a few years now, he’s looking forward to his daughter coming to visit for the summer. When he stops to check in on one of the properties he manages, he meets Bea, and there is just somethin so refreshing about her, not to mention things going wrong in her rental! These two hit it off, but as always life gets in their way. Can they make this work? Read along and find out! This is my first book by this author, and I’m so looking forward to reading more about Bea’s friends in this series!

    Finding love on Hilton Head,

I love this book for I have been to HH so many times for vacation. This island brings out the best of things. Elana wrote a wonderful story about losing love and finding it again, about a group of ladies living in Texas getting together one a month to have supper and lift each other up. Can’t wait to read the other books.

    Start of a series

I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my honest and voluntary opinion. Bea Callahan makes lists for everything. When her divorce is final her friends talk her into going to Hilton Head for 10 days. While there she becomes friend with the owner of her rental property and she plans to return, but life interferes. The plot includes issues of starting over midlife, trust, and priorities. An uplifting book and a great read.

Beautiful Story of Love Lost and Love Found Agai

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Cassandra and Harrison and watching them fall in love. It was so easy for Cass to advocate for herself with her kids and friends. They only saw her with West so it was difficult for them to see her with Harrison. He had her back and I think that helped her stand up and stand out. A lesson more of us string later in life women need to learn.

    The Winning Love List!

This was awesome. I liked the author’s writing style: engaging and believable characters, a fascinating setting in Texas and the scenic beach scene in South Carolina, vivid details which incorporated lots of imagery, and a heartfelt storyline that made me misty-eyed towards the end with a smattering of laughter throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the amusing narrative.

    Really Great Series

I’m totally enjoying this series about this group of friends in a supper club. It’s great seeing the friendship and the support they give each as as they go through life and find love. Older and wiser

I like this story line and these characters. They are a little bit older and going through many hardships in their lives. Good friends and families make things a little easier.Different people handle grief differently and so you have to give people time to go through the stages of grief. You can come out happy on the other side.I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.

Serious but Hopeful Story About Moving Forward When Life Surprises You

I was pulled in immediately to this story about how, despite our best efforts to plan our lives and control what happens, life sometimes doesn’t go according to the plan. Cass never dreamed she would suddenly become a widow in her forties just when she was arriving at the empty nest stage and was getting ready to enjoy the next stage of life with her beloved husband but that was what happened. It felt very real to me since this is exactly what happened to my beautiful mother when she was forty-seven years old. I couldn’t stop turning the pages as I took the journey with Cass as she found a way to move forward and find happiness in the next chapter of her life while bringing the loved ones in her old life along with her. It was a story about letting go of living in the past while holding on to the love and the memories. I loved Harrison (her second chapter), and her wonderful friends from the supper club. And I hurt with Cass’ children who were going through their own journeys through grief. It was all very authentic but it was hopeful and not depressing. One of my Elana Johnson favorites—highly recommend! I received an advance copy of the book from the author and this voluntary review contains my honest opinions.

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author. All of the characters seemed realistic…Cass and her family are each going through grief differently. Her friends and Harrison’s friendship and the care he shows help to heal her heart. Which surprises her kids. They aren’t ready to move on yet.Harrison really likes Cass. He understands that she likes him too. He worries he’s not good enough. BUT, he’s a grown-up. He actually has the hard conversations with her and they decide to see where their relationship leads.

I really enjoyed Cassandra’s story. It was sad when West dies but her life goes on and she makes the decision to move to Hilton Head Island to be near Bess and Grant. Her children however have other plans and try to stop her. I liked the way Harrison fights for her and doesn’t give up. I would love an outdoor kitchen like Harrison has. Clean Contemporary Romance

I enjoyed this book of second chances and the fellowship of women who challenge, love, and care for each other. I’ve never officially made a bucket list, but I enjoyed reading about Bea’s and the fact she called it her “Love List”–things she’d love to do in her life! Her friends help her along by booking a getaway vacation for her, and now that she’s in this new stage of her life, she begins to enjoy life and the friendly Grant who owns the beach house she’s renting. But they live so far away from each other, and what with family obligations, can it ever work out? As Bea begins to step out into the adventure of life, I thoroughly enjoyed the encouragement she received from her friend, “Run with it, not from it.” I’ve been able to apply this to my current life circumstances as I’m going through some health challenges. I also enjoyed that this book’s main characters were 40-somethings. A fun and uplifting book of second chances that I heartily recommend–a perfect summer beach read! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.

Life gets messy, maybe together they can manage it all

This definitely is a mix of woman’s fiction and beach romance, even if she never gets wet at the beach. The Supper Club ladies have all been married before and had children except for Lauren, she’s the successful career woman. That is until she steps into her office that’s been ransacked and met by federal agents questioning her on whether she’s is on a huge embezzlement scheme there. With her professional life bottomed out, her summer getaway on Hilton Head island looks much more attractive year long. But Cass is getting married and she really doesn’t want to go alone and Blake’s name comes up in contacts. He stood her up the year before because of his son and he was sure he had lost his chance, so he’s more than willing to play along as her arm candy and wants a chance at more. Lauren has issues behind the gorgeous, put together facade she shows the world and it’s hard to make herself vulnerable to have a relationship, especially when life gets messy which it does. She retreats and puts up walls keeps trying to wall off Blake. As he starts to understand her, he’s willing to keep tearing down her walls, especially when she connects with his struggling teenage son. This is no fairytale, but real and messy and complicated, as life is. Lauren strategy for Hilton Head is to relax and find herself, can there maybe be the family she never really had there too? There are adult conversations here but that’s all it is, conversations so it stays in the sweet and wholesome category.I received this as an ARC and it’s fun watching these friends overcome adversity and find happiness with the support of each other.

    AWESOME SUMMER READ

This story is a wonderful, endearing tale of a woman who is trying to unstick her life from being stuck in “boring, normal, not-needed” mode. She uses lists for anything and everything in her life and her “love list” tells about it all (so I wont). I enjoyed the characters and felt like I was right there in the middle of the women’s group meetings and right along the beach at Hilton Head. Elana Johnson is the bestest and never disappoints in her story telling. I highly recommend this book if you want to have some laughs, tears, joy, sorrow, and a “just-plain feel good feeling.

Elana Johnson is a talented writer, and she excels at writing realistic stories about friendships, family, and love. This is a well-written story about Cass’ upended plans, working through relationships with kids, parents, friends, Harrison, and second chances. Elana Johnson writes honest, real relationships better than anyone. The Paradise Plan has a lot of heart, and just might be my favorite book by Elana so far. A very poignant story of a middle aged woman, Cass and how she copes with the sudden death of her husband. She takes some time to visit Hilton Head island twenty months later and feels peace and happiness. She also meets a man, Harrison who treats her like a queen. He is such a good compliment to her. Makes you rethink divorce.

When I first read the blurb about this book, I didn’t think I would like it. But I forgot about the writing ability of Elana Johnson. I really was engrossed in this book and it made me rethink my own divorce. I was of the mind when my marriage ended after twenty years, that I was one and done. Ironically my marriage ended over a women named Beatrice, you got to find humor in that. I wish I knew about a love list then. Now I wonder what I missed. Bea realized that she had put herself in a box that she needed to get out of. I loved the characters in this book, especially Bea and Grant and their tribe of friends. This is a wonderful story that teaches us about loss, heartbreak and how to learn how to cope and move on. It’s a lovely read about Cass who has everything planned out, everything except her husbands sudden death. I have to say I did shed a few tears but when Cass made the brave decision to visit her friends many months later she discovers new possibilities, new friendship and possibly new romance. It’s a fantastic, sweet clean read that will leave you with a feel good feeling about love, friendship and life.
